Wuhan Virus – Convenient Timing for China

XINJIANG, China. There was a lot going on in and around China, and none of it was good for the Communist leaders.

For over six months, Hong Kong protestors were resisting new policies that risked civil liberties to full Communist control.

There was the release of the ‘China Cables’ last fall discussing how China’s government was running a state-wide domestic surveillance system, and arresting people determined by Communist algorithms. Greater information was also released about China’s re-education camps in Xinjiang, mostly located in far North-West China (map).

Ongoing conflicts for independence from the more remote area of China’s East Turkistan (Xinjiang region)(map above). Clashes with Chinese Islamic fundamentalists and the government of China have become more public, showing that China doesn’t have full control over their own country.

The China economy was also suffering. This includes the two-year plus “Trade War” with the U.S. The U.S. economy was also beating China by a long-shot for the first time in many years.

We saw four major issues for China that did not bode well.

All of this changed after the Wuhan Coronavirus.

A bill was put before Hong Kong government that would extradite criminals to China. The bill would also require all citizens and visitors in Hong Kong be subject to Mainland China’s Communist legal system. Protest began in June 2019 and virtually ended upon the exposure of Coronavirus (Image Credit: Reuters/ T. Peter).

I. End Hong Kong Demonstrations.

There were growing protests in Hong Kong, seeking some level of independence from Mainland China. A legislative bill brought before the Hong Kong (China) government would require all citizens and visitors in Hong Kong be subject to Mainland China’s Communist legal system.

China has a “socialist legal system” where there are civil courts. Judges can however interview those in court; ask questions like a lawyer, and then pass judgement without further jury input. Thus China Court Judges thus can act like prosecutors and not be impartial.

The Constitution in China is not deemed as the Supreme Law of the Land, and it is not enforced. China courts are also tied to politics were government can and does influence court outcomes. Corruption is also a problem in China.

In China, one can be detained for up to 37 days for being a suspect; and then held up to 13 1/2 months before charges are actually filed. This legal system has only been in-effect since the 1980’s.

“In Hong Kong there is deep mistrust and concerns about rule of law in authoritarian China where any individual who is perceived as a threat to the state or Communist Party can be silenced, disappeared or sent to jail.”

One can say anything they want under China control, as long as the Communist government agrees with it. One has no freedom to criticize government, unless one is an existing Communist government member.

With China exerting greater control over Hong Kong, protests were increasing, and becoming more violent on both sides.

By October 2019, Hong Kong banned protestors from wearing face masks so government authorities could better identify anti-government dissidence. The protests were curbed to virtually quashed by the timing of the Coronavirus. Almost no attention has gone to those seeking to keep quasi-independence and freedom in Hong Kong.

II. The China Cables.

Another big convenience for the Communist regime occurred in late 2019. Confidential Communist China cables were released discussing China’s sophisticated government domestic surveillance and subsequent ‘arrest by algorithm.’

China is the world’s largest surveillance state. Government cameras everywhere track all human movement. China’s Communist government uses computer algorithms to record, analyze human behaviors including non-verbal, facial recognition interpretation.

China seeks to find non-government complaint behaviors which could subject one to be placed in a ‘re-education’ camp or effectively another kind of prison. (Sources: CBS News, Daily Mail.UK, The Guardian.UK, and the New York Times).

About a month later, the Wuhan Coronavirus began spreading. Oddly enough, the timing was a big convenience for the government of China. The world’s media moved their focus from China’s human rights violations to the Coronavirus.

Despite then issues, China was approved in May of 2000 to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) under President Bill Clinton. The acceptance became official during U.S. President George W. Bush’s term in December 2001. The U.S. trade deficit with China skyrocketed for the next 17 years. The U.S. was importing significantly more from China than it was exporting to China due to trade barriers against the USA. Millions of U.S. manufacturing jobs were also lost to China as labor was cheaper and regulations were virtually non-existent in China.

III. Trade.

For the first time in U.S. history, President Trump took a tough economic stance on China seeking trade deals that are fairer to the United States worker and domestic business. Many U.S. media outlets, political and big government pundits largely support China over the U.S.

The so called “trade war” with China has reportedly cost the Communist regime $20 Billion in the first year, then another $35 Billion. In August 2019, it was reported that China has paid the U.S. $63 Billion in tariffs.

The Trump admin is helping China’s counter tariffs against U.S. farmers by giving $16 Billion of U.S. tariff money received from China to American farmers.

The U.S. Trade deficit didn’t start turning to America’s favor until President Trump took office. Trump sought better trade deals with China. When China didn’t comply, Trump executed billions of dollars in tariffs on China-made goods. Thus far, the early deals have been working. Many of the lost U.S. manufacturing jobs to China came back to the U.S.A. under Trump with incentives such as substantially lower corporate taxes, and fairer U.S. regulations. Starting in January 2019, America was now exporting more goods to China, than China was exporting to the U.S.

China would love to see a weak and China-compliant U.S. President, rid all tariffs, kill American business and China become the number one world economy.

We’ll, the timing of the Wuhan Coronavirus could not be more convenient for the Communist regime. The Coronavirus tanked the U.S. and most of the world’s stock markets and economies, causing multiple trillions of dollars in damages, all at the same time.

So far in the USA, the China Coronavirus caused an additional $2 Trillion plus in economic repair. Some say, this cost is just the beginning, and we think they are correct. If one adds the U.S. Federal Reserve support, the U.S. economic repair costs could run over $6 Trillion.

Some claim the tariffs hurts both economies. Before the Wuhan Coronavirus, this was not a true statement.

By 2019, President Trump’s “America First” policies increased domestic manufacturing jobs by 399% (Data and Graphic Source: Forbes).

IV. The Global Economy Before Coronavirus.

China.

In 2019, China’s economy was the weakest in 27 years as China exports fell, and costs of the “trade war” was affecting China far more than any impact in the U.S.

EU.

The EU (except Germany), had their socialist-driven economies down to near zero before the Coronavirus was a material issue. There will probably be widespread recession in much of the EU (except Germany). The EU had a 7.5% unemployment rate in June of last year dropping to 7.4% in December 2019 and the EU seemed to be pleased with this number.

USA.

While China and the EU economies were dramatically slowing, the U.S. economy was booming.

Growth in the USA surpassed all G-7 Nations. The U.S. was enjoying a 50-year (record) low unemployment rate at just 3.5%. U.S. wages at a 10-year high, record middle-class incomes, higher incomes for minorities, and a record stock market. This boom was inspired with lower taxes, less government regulations, and better trade deals for American companies.

All of this was accomplished with little to no help from Democrats, 24-7 negative news coverage against the Administration, and an impeachment too boot. There was nothing to stop massive U.S. growth until…we’ll you know – this little ‘bug’ from China came out.

Imagine what the U.S. economy could be like with those who actually supported Americans. None of this occurred under the previous administration.

“Post Virus?”

China has largely reopened their economy almost a month ago, ready to be the lead – or only supplier to the world where most countries are still largely closed up. This gives China a big economic head-start. It’s been a rocky start as expected, but remaining shutdown could impact China’s economy by -9% according to Goldman Sachs.

We don’t know if the Wuhan Coronavirus was related to any malicious intent or just accidental, but none-the-less, it sure was convenient timing for China to clean house and get rid of some negative attention.
